The History of Our Namesake: Col. William F. Lindsey (1801-1852).

In 1839, Lindsey moved his family to San Antonio where he accepted the position of deputy county surveyor of Bexar County. After the Mexican Army occupied San Antonio in 1842, Lindsey moved to La Grange and then in 1848 moved to Hays County where he opened a title and real estate company. In March 1851, Lindsey along with 2 others, bought land and laid out the town of San Marcos. Many say his home was located on the land where Lindsey Lofts are currently located. Col. Lindsey died at his home in San Marcos on November 16, 1852. His family continued his business for many years.
